In Charge for the Month

Pastor Jeff left…

…for vacation!!!

He, his wife and little boy decided to take the month of July off and head toward Wisconsin for their summer vacation. As with most of their vacations, they ended up driving. I can’t imagine driving that type of distance (tangent: That got me thinking, I wonder how many miles I’ve driven in the last four years between LA and SD. I wonder how many times I could have crossed the United States. Maybe twice?) with a wife and a little boy. In any case, I certainly hope and pray that the vacation will be a blessing to our beloved pastor and he can recharge his batteries for the year ahead.

While Pastor Jeff is away, he has left me the “keys” to the church (actually, that’s funny because I have an actual set of keys to the church office). I won’t lie. I’m a bit anxious for the month of July. Although I don’t expect anything catastrophic to happen (I pray not) while I’m in charge, I think this month will serve as a good test of what will be expected of me when I accept a pastoral role in the future. The sheer thought of week-in and week-out preaching and pastoral leadership is a bit intimidating. It isn’t the preparation that has me worried, it’s the actual delivery of God’s Word. I have so much to grow in respect to the trade and craft of preaching. I’m just really grateful for a head pastor that allows me to preach and a congregation that is willing to listen to me ramble on.

If you visit my site, please pray for me. I’d greatly appreciate it.
